Time to Potty Train...

The other day, I put Dalton down for his nap.
He's a really good napper, so he usually just lays on his pillow-pet and goes to sleep.
This time, however, I heard him calling me after about 20 minutes.
"Ma...Ma...MOM!"
I ignored him for a while, but he started sounding more insistent.
I finally went in to check on him and the whole room smelled like poop.
GROSS!
"Oh...you have stinky diaper...that's why you can't sleep."
Dalton nodded his head that he was indeed stinky, and point down.
It was then that I saw the problem
.
.
.
He took of his diaper and pooped in his crib!!!!
He's never taken his diaper off before.

This is the kind of job that I usually try to pawn off on my husband, but it was the middle of the day and he wouldn't be home for hours.  Which meant that I need to plug my nose and just take care of it.  I washed my hands like a 1000 times after because I felt like I could smell poop where ever I went.

Dalton felt bad about it and has since made a few unsuccessful attempts and peeing in the potty.
It might be time to start potty training because I DO NOT want to clean up any more poop out of the sheets!

What we wore (in green)

What did we wear this week?
A LOT of GREEN!
Friday was Saxon's St. Patrick's Day Party at school so we wore green.
Saturday was St. Patrick's Day so we wore green.
Sunday we had a St. Patrick's Day dinner...so we wore green.

The boys got their new St. Patrick's Day socks:
(Target dollar spot)
Me and Baby Cakes matched in our green shirts and jeans.
-My green shirt: Shade Clearance $2
-Dalton's green shirt: Old Navy Clearance $2
It was a stretch to find enough green for 3 days...
This was our best day :)
My 3 little leprechauns:
Once, several years ago, I was talked into green eye shadow at the MAC counter.
I love MAC eye shadows and wanted something different.
So, the girl working did my makeup in green and gold.
I loved it when she did it!
I couldn't ever get it quite as good on my own though.
But...in honor of St. Patrick's Day...I thought I would give green another shot:
Did anyone else end up in a lot of green this week?

Cinnamon Oatmeal Cake Recipe

My sister-in-law made this yummy cake for us once and I've been craving it ever since.  She told me it was a Lyon House recipe, so I googled it and found it on KSL recipes.
Imagine, googy, sticky, sweet, oatmeal, coconut, brown sugar and cinnamon...YUM!
Can you see why I had to find this recipe?

And it's an easy recipe.  I can usually tell by looking at a recipe if I'm ever going to bother making it or not.  Some recipes sound good but have so many ingredients that I don't have, that it would cost a fortune to make it.  This one is only the basics.

And, the next day, my husband took it to work for breakfast :)

Ingredients:
  • 1½ cups boiling water
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1½ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Method:

Pour boiling water over oats and let stand until cool. Cream the shortening with sugar and eggs until fluffy. Add oats and water mixture. Sift flour with other dry ingredients and blend into creamed mixture. Pour into greased and lightly floured 9x13 baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until cake tests done. Immediately spread topping on baked cake.
Topping for Oatmeal Cake

Ingredients:
  • ½ cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Method:

Melt butter, blend in sugar. Add remaining ingredients and spread on baked hot cake. Place under broiler for 1 to 2 minutes.

7 Years

Nate and I have been married for 7 years today!
My biggest fear was that it would rain on my wedding day.
.
.
.
It did!  LOL.  Oh well...it was still a perfect day!
Sometimes when I feel stuck...which I do a lot...it helps to look back and see how far we've come.
7 years...
3 children...
1 small townhouse...
1 minivan...
1 garden...
and a lot of memories!

“True love is not so much a matter of romance as it is a matter of anxious concern for the well-being of one's companion.”
Gordon B. Hinckley, Stand a Little Taller

These were the first 7 years of FOREVER and I can't wait to see what's in store for the rest...

“Love is the very essence of life. It is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Yet it is not found only at the end of the rainbow. Love is at the beginning also, and from it springs the beauty that arched across the sky on a stormy day. Love is the security for which children weep, the yearning of youth, the adhesive that binds marriage, and the lubricant that prevents devastating friction in the home; it is the peace of old age, the sunlight of hope shining through death. How rich are those who enjoy it in their associations with family, friends, and neighbors! Love, like faith, is a gift of God. It is also the most enduring and most powerful virtue.”

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

I hope everyone is having a great day so far...

Last night we made a Leprechaun Trap Cake:

I mixed up a cake mix and divided it into 6 bowls (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple) and layered them into a bundt pan.

Then we mixed up some green frosting.
Once the cake was cool, we turned it over onto a cutting board and started squirting on green frosting on it to make it look like grass.
We put pretzel sticks over the opening and gold coins on top.
Then the boys drew a picture of a rainbow to let the Leprechauns know that there was a rainbow inside.  We were hoping that the Leprechaun would climb up to get the coins, and fall through the pretzels and we'd catch him in the middle of the cake.
We left it on the table over night...
But that sneaky little Leprechaun ate his way out of the trap...
Rainbow cake:

The boys woke up really early to check their trap.
They discovered that the Leprechaun had eaten his way out of the cake and left a trail of gold coins all the way to the door.
They boys got up before us and so Saxon appointed himself the leader and suggested that since the trap didn't work, they might as well enjoy the cake!
So he used the bamboo skewer and cut a huge section out of the cake and they ate it with their hands.
Then they ate all of the chocolate out of the gold coins but left the gold wrappers exactly where they found them (in a trail to the door).
We became aware of their self-sufficiency when Dalton came into our room covered in green frosting...
They somehow decided that since the cake didn't work as a trap...it might as well be a toy.  I got out of the shower to find Luke Skywalker and Han Solo waist deep in rainbow cake:
Boys...I don't know what else to say...
I hope you're having a great St. Patrick's Day!

Dalton's New Look

Last week Brittany and I went to lunch with the kids.  Brittany looked at Dalton and laughed and said "He's starting to look like a mop."  Poor guy...it was true though.  His hair was getting pretty big and it was making his head look big.  And it always seemed to have bed-head no matter what I did to it.

So, Aunt Brittany was nice enough to bring her scissors over and give Baby Dalton a new look.

At first he thought all of the attention was pretty exciting:
He clippers made him giggle:
But once he started to see the hair fall, he decided that he did NOT like this whole hair cutting thing.  He cried for the rest of the hair cut:
(He didn't wiggle though)
A few kisses and a few starbursts later, he forgave Aunt BB and decided to smile for the camera and show off his new look:
He even helped sweep the floor:
Isn't my baby getting so big?!?

Have a great weekend!!!

Bold

My Nordstrom magazine came in the mail yesterday and am in love with all of the bold colors!
I am getting so antsy for spring, and seeing the new spring collections has me even more excited.
Here's some of my favorites from this season:

 (all images via Nordstrom.com)
I had to include that cute vintage bathing suit and some sandals because I'm not just excited for spring...I'm so excited for summer!!!  I'm sick of my black winter coat and boots.  Summer is my favorite time of year, and spring means that summer is coming so I can't help but love spring too!
